Disney to Produce 'Iron Man 3' in China
Walt Disney Co. signed a co-production deal with China's DMG Entertainment to produce the next "Iron Man" film in China, highlighting the country's draw for the global entertainment industry.
Disney's China division and Marvel Studios, which created the "Iron Man" film series and was acquired by Disney in 2009, will work with DMG to film "Iron Man 3" in China for release in May 2013, the two companies said.

Met 'Live in HD' Landmark: 10 Million Tickets Sold
The Metropolitan Opera in New York has reached a landmark in its movie-theater broadcasts from the stage to the world: 10 million tickets sold since the series started.
"Live in HD" ended its sixth season this weekend, beaming Verdi's "La Traviata" via satellite to 1,500 movie screens in North America and more than 40 countries.

Innovation continues as laser illuminated projection is previewed, anti-piracy measures are developed.
More than half of the world’s cinema screens are now digital, various speakers reported Saturday at the NAB Show’s Technology Summit on Cinema (formerly Digital Cinema Summit), which was again co-produced with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
That news led discussion of new technology, including the first public demonstration of a new laser illuminated projections system. And during Sunday’s keynote, Chris McGurk, president and CEO of Cinedigm, will urge Hollywood to get going on the business model in order to monetize the potential opportunities afforded by digital technology.

Experts discuss technical challenges
The SMPTE Technology Summit on Cinema Sunday got a look ahead at high-frame-rate 3D - along with a daunting introduction to the technical challenges it presents.
The gathering watched camera tests for Warner/New Line's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which tried various frame rates and shutter angles, and was generally impressed at the clarity of the image. "HFR" (and "HRFS" -- High Frame Rate Stereoscopic) delivers better results in 3D, cuts down on "judder" and other motion artifacts and generally makes the image appear sharper. The consensus was that the 48 fps 3D images did indeed appear noticeably clearer and more immersive.
